Mercedes head of motorsport Toto Wolff says it will likely be “robust” for the German marque to give up DTM on the finish of 2018, closing a “main chapter” stuffed with success.
Mercedes introduced on Monday night that it could be leaving DTM after the 2018 season in an effort to flip focus to Formulation E, which it’ll enter with a works programme from the autumn of 2019.
The choice comes as a blow to DTM, which solely boasts BMW and Audi as rival producers to Mercedes, each fielding six vehicles apiece.
Wolff spoke warmly of Mercedes’ time in DTM, which has yielded a mixed 29 championships and 183 race wins.
